Sarah's best bet these days is to become a full-time ("professional") model for Neiman Marcus, the only position (well...the only job, anyhow) that we all agree that she's qualified for. However, she's not getting the hint. She just keeps drilling, baby, drilling (it's giving me a headache), figuring she's gotta strike oil at some point. She is not unlike a compulsive gambler; she can't help thinking that, maybe if she does one more commercial, one more interview (God help her), one more swimsuit shot, this whole misunderstanding will be corrected, and she'll be made leader of the free world, tiara included... The new administration is going to end the prohibition on the funding of embryonic stem cell research. This signals America's impending return to science, facts, and intelligence and away from ideology, lies, and blind faith. It turns out that blind faith does not make for very good military policy, unbending ideology doesn't foster very good economic or diplomatic policy, and a steady stream of lies hasn't done much for America's education system or the free press.

The past eight years have been a struggle of medievalism vs. modernity, fiction vs. fact, ideology vs. rationality. Look where it has brought us. Freefall into war and bankruptcy. We've been force-fed a diet of religion and guns and told that it was milk and honey. How's it taste?

Democracy is not a spectator sport; Obama will need help pulling up the nose of this plane. But the renaissance will come. We learn by going where we have to go.

Eight long years of Bush and Dick have left us all exhausted. Not to mention badly in need of a shower.

They've done obscene things to this country.

Rigged the court system, with the aid of Alberto Gonzales. Made brutal torture methods a regular part of Sunday dinner conversation. Ravaged the economy. Run phony press conferences. Intimidated the press.

They have done their best to turn the United States into a banana republic, with all the trappings of corruption and cronyism. Done (totally) unwarranted wiretaps of Americans' telephone conversations. Suspended civil liberties. Blatantly stolen from the poor and given to the rich.

Fabricated evidence as a pretext to invade another country without cause. Sent American soldiers into battle without equipment, backup, support, a strategy, or an exit plan. Held secret meetings with oil execs. Overseen the looting of two countries.

Watched Americans die of thirst on their own rooftops one week and more after they survived a hurricane. Appointed spectacularly unqualified people to positions which decide matters of life and death for thousands, millions. Displayed (and celebrated!) total incompetence in managing wars, responses to natural disasters, the economy.

Bush and Dick have shown an absolute contempt for the Constitution. Ignored and violated the Geneva conventions. Antagonized our enemies and our allies, equally. Turned world opinion against America like never before in history. Brought us to the brink of a Great Depression. Bankrupted the country by deregulation and by a war that has become an economic black hole. Almost entirely ignored and forgotten the perpetrators of the 9-11 attacks.

Civil liberties make great holiday gifts. Let's hope this Thanksgiving is an actual one. But hope without action will only get us deeper into the abyss. This country is in freefall.

You watch the McCain-Palin joint "town hall meeting," and you wonder what kind of exotic chemicals these people are ingesting.

Tune in tomorrow for details from the Transcript from Larry King's show of 17 Sept. Incredible. Professional, willful stupidity on the part of the McCain supporters and advisors.

It's painful to watch stupidity so profound. Sleazy, arrogant, shameless (proud!), willful, spectacular stupidity. And lie after lie after lie. Bald-faced, grinning liars.

Sex Education in Schools

(Sexual) abstinence may be a tactic, but it certainly isn't a strategy.

(Getting knocked up and having) shotgun weddings are a family tradition for the Palins. And Sarah, bless her heart, wants to bring that tradition to your family, too -- by banning sex education in schools.

Palin believes that kids should be kept ignorant of where babies come from until at least the third trimester.

As for McCain, he has said many times that he "would rather skip the tour than lose an erection."

So, if you are one of those "Right to Knowledge" elitists, then you should do what you can to stop McPain and Born-Again Barbie before they close the book on education! (As for evolution "versus" creationism, more in this column later.)

(Don't worry -- McPalinism will pass eventually...once we find the right laxative.)

Came from nowhere, at times dependent on food stamps. Raised by a single mother and by his grandparents. Spoke two languages before he was 10 years old. Has lived in and been increasingly successful in Indonesia, Hawaii, California, New York, Boston, Chicago... Graduated undergrad from Columbia University, then number one in his class from Harvard Law School. Went to Chicago and took a low-paying job helping people who needed it. Through political skill, rose from State Senate to United States Senate. In 2004, walked into a convention center as a virtual unknown and electrified and inspired the nation with a pointedly anti-partisan speech in front of the Democratic National Convention. The speech was a call for national unity. Walked out of that convention center as a leading contender for the next Presidency of the United States. Using only his brain and a pen, earned millions of dollars by writing two books, which flew off the shelves of bookstores. In 2008, accepted candidacy for U.S. President in a stadium packed with 80,000 people, with thousands more outside, clamoring to get in.

Some men are born to greatness, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. At least two of those descriptions apply to Barack Obama.

John McCain

From birth, had everything handed to him, and still managed to #$@# it up.

Graduated ("Thank God!") fifth from the bottom of his class at Annapolis. Didn't get kicked out, because his father was an Admiral. During flight training, managed to park his jet fighter plane on the ocean floor. (Now that is a distinction! And hey, isn't that a little expensive?) Had a bit of trouble getting out of said plane, since the day they covered "ejecting from the cockpit" was one when he was mentally absent.

Was given entry into the War College by Jack Warner, who laughingly admits that McCain wasn't qualified for admission, but that "that didn't bother me."

McCain cannot remember how many houses he and his wife own, but will have his staff look into it, if you really need to know.

John McCain recognizes the military and economic genius of George Duh-bya Bush, and hopes to follow in his footsteps. McCain has wisely chosen as his running mate Sar-Ah Palin, who will proudly tell you that she once put the Governor's official jet up for sale on eBay. Palin and McCain are on the same page: McCain has put his ethics and honor up for sale on eBay...bidding starts at a buck fifty.

Was given the money to build the bridge, but then decided that she already was nowhere, and didn't need a bridge to get there. Kept the money, though.

Sarah Palin maintains that the goddamn polar bears wouldn't have to be rubbed out if only they could be trained to operate oil drills, the bastards.

Time To Choose A Side

John McCain has embarked on a sleazy path of hardcore political fiction in his campaign to become the Chief Prostitute servicing the extreme right wing. "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here," he has decided for you.

McCain has decided to pimp out his own country in exchange for power. But he is not content simply to stand by and act as "lookout" while his country is raped by self-righteous right-wing fundamentalists; he is an active participant in the brutalization and mutilation of truth, ethics, and other traditional American values.

Kiss goodbye what is left of America if John McCain becomes the next President. Bush has (proudly) been the beginning of the end. McCain aspires to be the next phase in the death of the great American experiment.

Is it time to abandon hope, to abandon America? That is the question...whether it is nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take up arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them...

Do NOT abandon hope. Do NOT go gentle into that good night.

The American Constitution needs a champion, an advocate and a protector. The American President is supposed to be that protector; that is what a President-Elect swears to on his inauguration day. "President" Bush has made a mockery of this principle, and inhabits with sneering arrogance a position that was, until his assumption of it, held to be an honor and a privilege.

McCain and the people he has elected to lie with have nothing but contempt for science, truth/facts, the Constitution, the free press, the justice system, and the American people. They have decided that they do not want to live in a nation of laws, but rather in a nation of men.

It is time to choose a side. If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. Inform yourself. Vote. Do not let lies go unchallenged or unanswered; do not let "political correctness," hopelessness, or fear allow you to become an accomplice to the destruction of your country.
